In the short story "The Drummer boy of Shiloh" by Ray Bradbury, a boy named Joby runs away from home following the the army with nothing but his drum. Throughout the story Joby learns how hard and scary the outside of his home and how uncomfortable it is.
In the story Joby at is very shy and self conscious and has a very low self-esteem he thinks about a lot of things and has many internal problems. One example of these problems is in one part part of the story where Joby is sitting alone in the dark and he starts thinking about how he can't fight in the war and he says "I only got a drum, two sticks to beat it and no shield".At this moment Joby started to regret running away I thought he was going to go back home and I was surprised when he didn't but i thinks its important lesson.
Now in the short story Joby is still following the soldiers but then as it gets dark he shifts away and sits down and starts to close his eyes and play his drum but then he hears a noise and panics he closes his eyes and tries to hide but when he opens them he see's this man standing infront of him. Joby then realizes the man is the General the General then starts to talk to Joby and makes him very scared but Joby does not know that the general is just expressing himself . Soon the general gives Joby a speech and boosts his confidence and makes Joby believe in himself and Joby feels like he is capable of fighting the war . I think this was a very important part of the story because it was very heart touching and motivating and taught us lesson of how to never bring people down.
